My Friend Jane is doing a book challenge this year. I tried to do a TBR list last year. Ok, I printed the list, and read, oh, maybe two books on it. Anyway, here's Jane's rules for this challenge this year. I might even be able to handle it.... we'll see. My books are some recommended by friends, all from my book shelves, and quite a few that I've been meaning to read for some time.
Here's my list of 10 books
1 - A Thomas Jefferson Education by Oliver DeMille Finished around 20 Jan '13
2 - Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset
3 - Sanctification: Christ in action by Howard Senkbeil
4 - Middlemarch by George Eliot
5 - The Vinland Sagas: The Norse Discovery of America
6 - The Defense Never Rests: A Lawyer's quest for the gospel by Craig Parton
7 - In A Dark Wood Wandering: A Novel of the Middle Ages by Hella H. Haasse
8 - The History of the Ancient World by Susan Wise Bauer
9 - Redwall by Brian Jacques
10 - The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
Alternates
1 - Emily of New Moon by L.M. Montgomery
2 - Reading Like a Writer by Francine Prose - Finished in July in Egypt. Fantastic Book. Will read again.
3 - A Primer of Probability Logic by Ernest W. Adams
4 - The Hammer of God by Bo Giertz - Finished in June. Loved it. Need to read again and take notes.
5 - The Lady and the Unicorns by Tracy Chevalier
6 - India: An Introduction by Khushwant Singh - Actually a really fast read. Fun little history of India
Ok, we'll see how it goes.
I'm reading Frugal Luxuries with some friends. AND I'm trying to finish The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie (about half way though that). Plus I'm reading Richard Hatch's series of Battlestar Galactica Sequels that he wrote
Will report back as I finish books, hopefully I'll do a better job than last year....

Someone should post here. So I will. I finished the next two Battlestar Galactica books (serious fun for me, but not on my list). I have more to read, but... I have to wait for Amazon to send them slow boat from China... so I wait.
I started Thomas Jefferson Education. As I read I realized that I must have started it somewhere in the past (2009 or so?) so I'm still counting it cause I had to start over.
I'm still working through Frugal Luxuries (on chapter 7). And my pastor challenged us to read a verse a day of scripture (I changed that to a chapter for myself). I'm caught up so far.
I finished Frugal Luxuries, It seems like a great book for young unmarried women who's mothers never taught them any basics. It might have been of greater help when I was in my 20's.
I also finished TJE. LOVED it!!! Love the concept. I'm not sure I'll be so great at implementing it, but I will try. I think it will be a great thing even if I only get part of it done, nothing bad can come of reading and discussing classics.
I am going to read Hammer of God next. But I've also got Ancient Rome, from the Uncle Eric Books to get through.
Ok, I didn't mention that I read 5 of the 6 Fandemonium Stargate Atlantis Legacy books in the last week and a half. the 6th one isn't in print yet....
I figure if I intersperse reading candy with salad and meat and veggies, it all balances out in the end.
